What is the Correct Weight of My Height?

Today, one of the major problem world's population facing are related to weight related issues. With the increase in health conciousness, more and more people wants to know their correct Weight for their Height. Knowing correct Weight is not as simplistic as looking at a Height weight chart, a person's healthy weight is determined by more than his height or average height and weight statistics.

To identify your correct weight ("ideal" body weight) more than height and age..fat distribution, body composition, conditioning and lifestyle are all more important factors. The athletes have a higher body mass index, as his muscle weight is more than its weight in fat. To assess the health of children, it is important to consider the circumference of the head, along with the proportion of height.

Some of the important indicators used in determining the correct Weight of your Height are:

Body Mass Index (BMI)

What is BMI? To determine if someone is obese, doctors and other health care professionals often use a measurement called body mass index (BMI). First, a doctor measures a person's height and weight. Then the doctor uses these numbers to calculate another number, the BMI.

Once the doctor has calculated a child's or teen's BMI, he or she will plot this number on a specific chart to see how it compares to other people of the same age and gender.

A person with a BMI above the 95th percentile (meaning theBMI is greater than that of 95% of people of the same age and gender) is generally considered overweight.

A person with a BMI between the 85th and 95th percentiles typically is considered at risk for overweight. Obesity is the term used for extreme overweight. There are some exceptions to this formula, though. For instance, someone who is very muscular (like a bodybuilder) may have a high BMI without being obese because the excess weight is from extra muscle, not fat...More

Body Fat Percentage

The Body Fat Calculator can be used to estimate your total body fat based on your size. How much Body Fat are carrying? Find out if you are in the healthy range. Body Fat percentage is simply the percentage of fat your body contains. If you weigh 70 Kg(Kilogram) and are 10% fat, it means that your body contains 7 Kgs fat and 63 Kgs lean body mass.

Waist Hip Ratio (WHR)

Weight-to-Hip Ratio is the ratio of the circumference of the waist to the Hips. The WHR has been used as an indicator or measure of the health of a person, and the risk of developing serious health conditions.

Research shows that people with "apple-shaped" bodies (with more weight around the waist) face more health risks than those with "pear-shaped" bodies who carry more weight around the hips.

WHR is used as a measurement of obesity, which in turn is a possible indicator of other more serious health conditions.

A WHR of 0.7 for women and 0.9 for men have been shown to correlate strongly with general health and fertility. Women within the 0.7 range have optimal levels of estrogen and are less susceptible to major diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and ovarian cancers.Men with WHRs around 0.9, similarly, have been shown to be more healthy and fertile with less prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
